Googling old classmates

April 21st, 2005 by Adina

I was cleaning up the apartment when I came upon a magazine that my AC* class made in grade six right before graduating. My writing was hilariously awful. I remember not wanting to do it and putting it off as much as I could. I wrote what was basically an ad for Microsoft Golf, how ironic is that. What a misspent youth.

It seems so shocking that it’s been nine years since I graduated from Greenfield Elementary. So, given that I should either be cleaning up or studying for exams next week, I decided to google all these people who I went to school with.

Out of 20 names including me, I think I can find 8 of us through google. (Yay! This site finally comes up when you search for me!) I may have found nine, but I can’t confirm that the Felicity (Fox) Herst I found is the same one that I went to class with… That would be cool and odd, but I don’t remember her at all. It seems that one person is dead, although I don’t know how. The only reference to his name is in someone’s Nexopia profile, but the guy is the right age, and in Edmonton.

I found contact information for three people, and I can find contact info for one more offline. I was thinking about e-mailing people about some kind of 10 year anniversary thing, but I probably won’t. I don’t think I’ll have the money to go out west next summer, and honestly I don’t remember very many of these people. I spent more time with people who were in my regular class. I was thinking about getting the class photos from my parents when I go home and googling the people I can remember.

I was surprised by the fact that some people had no hits at all. I’m so immersed in net culture that it seems odd that some people aren’t. I shouldn’t be so surprised, I mean it would have been difficult to find me not too long ago.

*AC is a program that takes people who do well at school out of the regular classes a few times a week to do extra activities.
