Kingston sure is beautiful in the fall. There’s something about the grey of the sky, the vivid red of the leaves and brick buildings, and the hints of green left on the trees and grass that makes me feel so happy and alive.
I’m still nursing a bit of a cold, but I’ve mostly caught up with school stuff. Some time in the next couple weeks I’m going to have to upgrade to Breezy. I had thought of doing a clean install, but when I found out that the terminal can no longer be found in any of the menus (even windows has that!!) and realised how much I’d have to do to put it back to the way I like it, I think I’m just going to upgrade. I also think that getting a third hard drive would be a good idea. I was downloading Quantian (math knoppix) yesterday, and the torrent stopped at %86 with an “I/O device full” error… yup I’ve filled my 30 gig linux partition. I’m thinking a 20 gig hard drive would be good just for movies and such (before they get burned to DVD).
School’s going ok. I’ve got a quiz tomorrow and a midterm on Thursday. I’m not really sure how worried to be about them. The midterm is open textbook, which scares me because I don’t know what to expect. He could put lots of tricks in legitimately because we have examples and formulae in the text… I don’t think he’s likely to do that, but it’s still a possibility. I’m not that worried about the quiz. I’ll do a bit more studying, but the course is very straightforward (solid mechanics II - mostly statics).
I wish these courses were taught from the mathematics point of view. It makes so much more sense to me when that’s done. I guess even engineers are somewhat afraid of math.
I’ve been working on a little paper that’s a mathematical approach to the Dynamics course we’re taking. It’s been helping me a whole lot in understanding what’s going on. It’d be nice to do that for Thermo as well. Perhaps I’ll start such a thing tomorrow.
It looks like I may be missing at least half an hour of the Curves seminar again tomorrow. It’s really frustrating since I’m really interested in it, but what can you do. I can’t exactly skip midterms to go to a non credit seminar.
