The word of the day is klebrig, which means sticky. On Wednesday, I finished digging the drainage ditch at the back of the house. The first bit, which I did a while ago, wasn’t so difficult since the earth was fairly dry. The bit that I finished Wednesday was downhill of the earlier bit, and was a lot more muddy.
They think I’m a bit crazy here since I profess to like digging ditches with shovels. It’s satisfying work. It’s nice to do something that’s straightforward. I know that I just need to keep moving, and even if it’s going slowly, I’ll eventually finish the job. When it’s done, I know that I’ve accomplished something useful, and there’s visible evidence of work done.
I must say though, that I rather prefer digging dry soil to the klebrig, heavy, muck that I dug Wednesday.
Der Boden war sehr klebrig, und es war schwer zu buddeln.
The earth was very sticky and it was difficult to dig. Ah well, all was eventually finished, and I was covered with mud but content.
