Nantes

December 30th, 2007 by Adina

Sunday Nov 4th

I last left off on the train on the way to Nantes, a city where I’d spent three months living with Aude’s family in 2002. The day I arrived, we piled in the car for a seaside picnic at a small fishing village whose name I forget. Aude’s parents, Bernard and Rosine, and her sister Gaela were there, as well as Aude’s uncle and cousin, Louis and Valentin, with their Great Dane (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten). After we’d finished eating, the sun managed to poke through the clouds, and we had a fun hike along the beach.

There were other families there with groups of kids chasing each other across the sand. They were very impressed with the dog - he was bigger than they were! Finally one of the boys had the courage to come up to Louis to ask if he could pet the dog. The dog is incredibly gentle, so the answer was yes. The boy thought that was pretty cool, and called his friends to come pet the dog too, but none of them were brave enough.

There’s a tower on the beach, which I believe is called la Tour des Anglais, or somesuch - probably built to repel or warn of an English invasion or something. Valentin and Gaela had fun playing tag on it.
